I went with some Dunlops after a lot of thinking and to start with first tires which I will have warmers on. Front 120/70×17 D209GPA Medium Rear 190/60×17 D211GPA Medium I know its not an ideal setup as the front is discontinued but should save me a little money while I'm learning the ways of a decent track tire. My main concern is the size of the rear which Dunlop assured me would be fine with no issue as the 190/55X17 was out of stock. He did say that this tire on my wheel would be about 10mm taller/ 5mm at the suspension which I'm hoping does not throw things off too much. I am riding the 848 which seems to have all kind of geometry problems from what I read. What do you guys think anything to worry about or throw them on and go? Thanks -Nathan
The 209 will not last long...especially if your setup is the least bit off. Go with the 211 next time.
You took the Dunlop deal. I would not put the 209 front on my bicycle. It has no feed back. When it goes it goes without warning. You are setting yourself up for failure from the start IMO. Good luck with it on there because you will need it. Should have spent a few extra bucks and got the 211 on the front as well.
If its worse then the power pure I will eat my hat. Everyone likes the 211? No big deal I run one weekend on the 209 and if its rubbish I'll swap it out, thanks for the information.
Since the 211 came out no one runs the 209's. They are not great tires regardless of who won on them in AMA.
Not true.... Especially on a 1000... I get more life out of Michelin C's than any other tire I have used in the past...
I've never rode the pures on the track. But when I use to ride street, I wouldn't ride anything but the pures. I coach on pirelli's and race on Dunlops... I love all my girls!!!
The 209 front is fine.... This is total rubbish. The 209 on the front is a good tire. I ran them for an entire season on the front before switching to a slick front. Good feedback, good wear, no issues. I did have trouble with wear on the 209 rears. No issues with the new Dunlops 211. House - These tires will work just fine. Use tire warmers if you can, and enjoy them.
Tires are just like Assholes.... Everyone needs them and has to use them.... Sooooooooooooooooooo Opinions may vary.... Just ride with what you are comfortable with... I give all tires a fair chance but have yet to see anything better than the new Michelin Slicks or Pure C VB Combo.... Again opinions may vary.... Carry on...
I ran the 211s last weekend for the first time at Tally and loved them! I ran warmers so I dont know what they're like cold.
I will be running warmers and setting pressures to dunlop's recommendations to start with. I was really concerned about the extra height of the rear more then anything but I guess its just something we will have to see on track.
Then you might want to add a link (or take a tooth off) as if the hugger clearance was a problem, you might run into a SA clearance problem at speed.
hugger was aftermarket and was already a tight fit with the warmers. Slight chain adjustment and was just fine.
Today I mounted up my new rear tire Dunlop 211 190/60. As a result of the increased height I'm getting some slight rubbing on the swing arm. Any ideas on how to fix this my chain tension is maybe a little loose but nothing crazy. Surely not enough to clearance that gap and then allow for warmers over the top of the tire. Any help is appreciated. Thanks -Nathan
Thanks for the information guys. I guess now is as good of time as any to get a 520 chain and drop a tooth off the front and get a quick change rear sprocket setup going. Hahaha funny how things snowball isn't it!!!!
