Hey! Happy holidays. With the schedule out, I've began planning my year and I really want to make it down to Barber for the first two events. Many of you probably don't know me, my name's Denis. I just started riding last year and I was only at Grattan for a few events late last year. Met a lot of great people and staff, but it's time for me to start adventuring out to other tracks. I'm located in Grand Rapids, Michigan but then I move to Flint for school(Kettering Univ.) from April 4th to June 20. I'll also start my WERA racing career this season so maybe there's some opportunities for splitting costs there as well.

I'll have a solid hitch carrier set up so I am able to transport my bike short distances, maybe meet you somewhere along your route(hopefully not too far out of your way. Willing to split gas and then some. Hopefully there's a few other Northern's thinking about going and maybe a rideshare makes it happen. If you have room for a spare bike, I'll pay you to take mine so I don't have to hassle with a trailer and drive down separate. Being a college student makes this whole track addiction thing much more difficult sometimes but if this doesn't work out, I'll probably uhaul my way down there.

I've used a hitch carrier to go well over 3k miles. from cincinnati to grattan, PIRC, putnam, and mid-ohio about 10x

Skip the first one and come get your race license at roebling road on st. patty's weekend (WERA nat'l round 1). Always a great time in Savannah. Make it to cincinnati and we'll haul you the rest of the way.

word of advice if you want to race dont go to tracks you're not planning to race, you'll have your hands full trying to learn all the new ones you'll be racing at.

Do you strap the bike down with a handlebar harness for that long?

nope. I strap the front at the lower triple and the rear two straps over the seat attached to the subframe to keep the sway in check.

Hey man, I'm a S.E Michigan engineering student to (at OU). Unfortunately I'll probably have to make the trip to Barber in March alone, but when you're there, come pit up with us! there will be a lot of us Michigan/Illinois guys there at Barber.

This will also be my first year for WERA, I'm excited for the April Grattan pro school/race weekend. I'm sure we'll be seeing each other around a lot

Awesome, I'm not the only broke college student with a track addiction! PM me your # and we can set some carpools up for WERA/STT weekends and for some summer rides along the lake! I don't have enough buds around here that ride.

I have a Kendon 3 bike trailer that I might take down there. The bad part is I can only haul 1 bike with my car since it has limitations. But if anyone wants to drive their vehicle and haul my trailer ill be more than happy to let them borrow it. Im located in chicago.

    Denis,
There is always groups of riders going down for Michigan and someone will likely have room for you. Lots of northern riders start the season down there.

With that being said if you really are a broke college student i'd recommend you save your money from barber and get more track time by riding Grattan and Gingerman.
For what it would cost to do 1 weekend at Barber with entry fees and gas you could ride 2 full weekends at Grattan or Gingerman. As a newbe you want as much track time as possible.

Exactly! This is the reason I haven't done Barber, Road ATL, Jennings etc.

For the cost of a weekend, gas, food etc. I can do much more at some of our local tracks (more track time, less drive time). Yes they are not as nice as Barber but still great! And Gingerman should be fun with the repave!

Someday though I will make it down south; even if that means moving there!!
