How fast do the bleaches in oil break down? I got two track days on the oil in my bike now, and I plan in changing it before RA; how, I'mccuriousat how dfastit aactually does break down.
send it in to be tested. it will tell you condition of oil and engine, and recommend a change interval. Ski
I didn't even know you could send it in to get tested. I'm just curious about the science of it, because I do change mine every two tracks.
Not for that SXV.. I remember Agip costing a ton.... Then there is your tranny too... That is one thing I don't miss about that bike..
Everybody complain about SXV but I don't get it. Oil isn't expensive, engine don't blow up. She is fast as hell, handle like 250, jump like kangaroo and fly like an eagle. Best bike ever
I change the oil & filter after 2 weekends (4 days) at the track. At that point, its well-used, but still working. I guess I could push it another day, maybe two, but I'm not willing to blow my engine by being chintzy with $30 of oil and a $10 filter. I use standard Honda 10W40.
I've wondered this same thing. I use amsoil full synthetic. On the street it's good for 5000 miles between oil changes. I usually went 3000. Compare that to track riding, a typical day is what 100-120mi., the bike does run higher rpms but isn't ever really getting that hot ( its in normal operating temp) because we're always moving. So even if i do say 10 days that's still only 1200 miles well under the 5k the oil says its good for. It would be cool to have it tested and see.
I've bought whole crate (24x 1L bottles) of ebay a year ago in good price and I'm good for this and next year
Thats exactly what I was thinking/calculating as well. Especially full synth oil doesnt break down as regular mineral oil does as it ages. It does get dirty tho. But anything around 1000 to 1500 miles should be no problem for a good oil even under race day conditions.
