Looks like I need a new lid for this season and have generally heard good things about the newer Bell helmets, and considering the price point they are at I am very much leaning towards one. So before I jump on one I'd like to hear if anyone has the helmet and how they liked it. And if they can compare it to any other helmet(s). Any opinions specifically involving wind noise, cheek and forehead comfort, stability, and if you have been unfortunate to have to use the helmet, how it held up? I currently use a Shoei X-12 and love it, but will be outdated by mid season, and I cant afford to spend 500+ on another one right now.
I love my RS1. The head shape of Bell helmets fits me best. My only complaint is how much the helmet broke in. I wear a large in other brands, but medium in a Bell. It was ultra right to start, but broke in lots, and is now perfect. Good vision, comfort, etc, and the auto dimming lens rocks.
I loved both of my RS-1s and my Star before that. I have a Star now, but definitely think the price-point of the closeout RS-1s is something to seriously consider. It's an incredible lid for what it costs. Both RS-1s held up fairly well in the accidents they were involved it and I would definitely trust my head in another RS-1.
I've had the Vortex, RS1, and both carbon and non-carbon Stars. I prefer the RS1 above the others. More comfort at a lower price than the Star, and still feels just as good as the Star at speeds, can't go wrong with that. I haven't ridden in the X series of Shoei, but I have tried them on, and fitment is pretty much the same, in my opinion, but found the RS1 to have a softer liner. When this RS1 wears out or gets wrecked, another RS1 will likely take it's place.
Ive only owned a rf1100 and a bell vortex. Ive tried on the rs1, star, rf1200 and others. The rs1, vortex and rf1100 and 1200 fit a very neutral head right in the middle of wide and oval. I personally wont ever by another shoei. 5 times the cost of my vortex. The worst part the shoei fogs all the time unless you buy another expensive face shield. Why in the world are we nit getting a anti fog coating on a helmet that cost up to 9 time more than a entry level helmet that comes with a antifog coating.
I have a rs-1 street and a 2014 bell star for track I like the fit and stable for how big the shell size is planning to grab one of the leftover 350 dollars stars from STG to replace the rs-1 it's almost dated out
Another +1 for the Bell RS-1 for me. My 4th season with it, and will most likely stick to the RS1 when mine expires.
