    Hey all,

I just bought some bodywork for my 636 (most of you know me as the "trying to fix up an RC51 guy"; I'm just the mechanic on that bike) but I have never painted bodywork before. I also got a cheap, banged up tank to install so, if I decide to sell, I will have nice pretty bodywork (nice because it was removed) to go with the bike. Any links on "how to" or any quicky thoughts? Will I need to paint a metal tank differently than fiberglass or is it just scuff and go (i.e., am I way overanalyzing this)?

    Thanks,

    Adam O.

Also, thanks for all the feedback on my other posts...

I stripped my tank, but there were decals under the clear I wanted to remove. Otherwise I painted tank and body the same way.

Shake can until the ball rattles freely, then apply thin coats in smooth, overlapping strokes....

I tried that and got paint all over everything, should the lid be on or off? Also what ball, the can is now almost empty and I still can't see one. Next time I am just going to mix the paint with a stick like I usually do.

In other words, I'm making this more complicated than it really is (I've been known to do that from time to time)? Actually, now that I think about it, my grandfather gave his car a fresh coat of paint with a paint brush.

My old life before dental school. I used to be a powertrain calibrator. The company I worked for did a lot of work for Ford.

Did you work on the Vanflembarkton Ford GT?

Did you ever solve the 2.2v issue????

Yes to both, and you must know Colby. Tell him I say: "K, K, Yea but no, Ooooh Boy, (follow-waitress-into-the-kitchen-like-a-stalker-and-try-to-take-a-picture-of-her...). And let's keep it professional.

I work with him on a H2 program. When you stated you were a calibrator and the picture I figured he knew you. I also played softball with John F. before he got hurt. Small world

    For painting:

If you can wait till May 5-6 at Grattan, one of the instructors (Willie) is a painter and he should be able to answer all your questions. He lives in the area and has done some of the staff's bikes.

Rob is also a staff member who paints. I have seen a number of his paint jobs and they look good to me.

I think the bodywork will arrive just before the May Grattan event so it can definitely wait. You must be the famous "Kozy" referred to in a previous post?

Actually, my willie special paint job should be done in time for Mid O, so if i dont kiss asphalt, it will be on display at Grattan too... I am too lazy to shake the can, so I had him do it!

not sure if he is doing work for the gen. public though.. he should be there to, so you can ask him. Rob's work is pretty solid too, and i have heard good things about the guy that Amelio knows as well. Reasonably priced too!
