After every TD weekend? you're changing your oil too much, IMO. I'm changing every other weekend and changing the filter every other oil change.

Im with you Nick. I have @7k track miles on my bike and have only changed the oil about twice per season. I just dont see the point in changing it as often as most I guess. I think with a full synthetic oil its just a waste of time and money to change it every weekend or even every other. Just my .02, to each their own!

HMMMM after four or five trackdays which is ruffly 1000 miles my oil is blacker and thicker than molasses, I wonder if you continue to do that if you will have any problems motorwise down the road that would be an interesting test long term!

I have had my 06 since new and have always done it that way, but my oil never looks that bad when I change it. So far so good!!

are you running synthetic? My oil never gets like that. I do keep an eye on the condition of the oil too. if it starts looking or feeling rough (gritty when felt) I change it.

And keep in mind I do ride a little less than staff since I am to busy in the morning hours.

yeah i generally run amsoil its not black but its "dark" its still somewhat transparent but i always feel the oil too it never feels real gritty but i feel it safe to change it at that point...

i have had my bike since 06 its and 06 i bought it used with 1500 miles and it has never seen the street but a handfull of times so its whole life has seen the rev limiter and i have never had an issue either...

    PERMEANENT FILTERS

    THANKS for all the replies.
we ended up buying FLO filters.
haven't installed them yet, but they look very well made.
i'll slow down on the frequency of changes, as per the thread's general tone.
    thanks guys.

In a full weekend you will do approx. 250-300 miles. These miles are at a much higher "rate" than you would on the street by far. Wouldn't it be fairly accurate to think you rode your bike 3-4 times harder that weekend than you would normally on the street?
What kind of proof do you have that your motor is "fine" after 2 oil changes the entire season. Have seen the wear and tear after just 1000 miles.
Why would you change only some of the oil when you do a change? That is exactly what you are doing when you do a filter every other change.
Oil and filters are cheap compared to the parts they protect.
Do what you feel comfortable with, but I will continue with our schedule...even using one of the most expensive synthetics available. JMO

I guess it all depends on the bike, engine, how many track days you run, if you run coaching and "fun" laps, etc.

I only change my track bike oil 2 times per year. It generally comes out looking clean enough that I am tempted to put it in my street bike. I have never done it and never will, but it does look that good.

I would say if your oil comes out looking nearly like new, no point in changing more often. If it is getting black and icky in a track bike, change it more often for sure. If you want to be even more certain, send it off to a lab for analysis and see how it is holding up.

Mine is still running strong and haven't had any issues with just doing 2-3 changes a season. It has over 12,000 miles on it now, that's enough proof for me.
