The track is horrible bumps, cracks, and even the patches were bumpy. I will not go back unless the repave it. You would also think they would sweep the dirt off the track so there was more then one line thru the turns. Alright im done complaining.
Yes, Pocono has its own set of 'challenges'... But if you can ride well at Pocono, you can ride well anywhere!
Pocono East is much better than FUSA, and I'll still go there when there is nothing else, but I'll definitely be favoring Monticello. Maybe the competition will be a heads up for the Pocono staff and they'll repave the place. Jim B
You guys need to rethink the FUSA course. It's a real old school infield/oval track (gee, like Daytona). It's a hard track to learn but after 2 or 3 days practice it really starts to flow. The patches suck, I agree, but I think the fastest line is inside them anyway. It was dirty Saturday I'll give you that, but I thought it had lots of grip. Certain sections are a little bid dangerous for racing (turn 1 and coming off the back straight banking) , but fine for a track day. The only bump that bothers me is coming onto the front straight, but if you take a late apex (like you should and stay off the paint) it's not so bad. Does anyone else think the tunnel turn bump wasn't so bad this year (turn 2 oval)? What worries me is with everyone bad mouthing it and the low numbers there Saturday that it may be off the schedule next year. That would be a shame. It is a classic.
I enjoy pocono very much, it takes a lot of thought to go fast there. since we only go there once a year its hard to find the right setting (defiantly not the place where you show up and just ride it with the same settings as NJMP) I found myself cursing the place in the morning, too bumpy, I cant find my line through one, Im not as fast here as I was last year, my bike sucks, that kind of stuff. But if you take time to make adjustments you can really turn that around. By the end of the day I was loving it. I asked Renard the Tire/suspension guy just to give me a little more pre-load in the front and take out a whole bunch of compression front and rear and the the thing just felt great and the bumps disappeared. Thanks Renard. The track is really different then any other we go to and I think its really great to run once or twice a year. I hope we go back next year but if STT does not I understand, it is really time for them to repave. after going to monticello motor club and NJMP with brand new pavement its hard not to notice all the bumps at pocono.
Jesse, Pocono makes Grattan look like Barber. Grattan doesn't have walls or dirt on the track after the Nascrap races have left. Still, a weekend at Pocono is better than a weekend at home & I haven't ridden since we were at FUSA last year, save 6 cautious laps at Jennings last Jan. Our options are rather limited in the Northeast & mid atlantic compared to youguys in the midwest.
Scott Let me make simple "ANY CLOSED COURSE IS SAFER THEN THE STREET" There is NO WAY any public road is safer then a race track. I would like to talk you about this on the phone or in person because having a good conversation here is hard... PM me your cell # THX Renard
I got the joke I was just having fun with it, now Renard was ready for a full intervention. all being said I plan on doing the next and maybe last Pocono east later in september. its a different beast then FUSA more like wresting an alligator then ridding a Bull...but I like alligators.
