Anybody running the Power Race ( not the pilot power)without tire warmers or on the street? If so, what were the results?

I ran them at Autobahn and VIR without warmers. Still sticky once they're warmed up, but good god are they greasy when cold.

It was in the 50s at VIR while I was up there, and tires took at least a full lap to get anywhere near temp. And when they were stone cold, you could feel both ends of the bike slipping, even if you were taking it pretty easy.

I just invested in a set of warmers, because I liked the grip on these so well when they're hot that I felt it was worth it.

Thank's for the feedback John. Thats what I was afraid. What would be ideal for me is a race tire that doesn't need warmers, that can be warmed up safely in a lap. I need a lap to warm up anyway.

I would like to replace them for each event and also use them on the street after a track day. I've done this before. Some tires will do it, some won't. Wear isn't critical. A track day plus 1,000 street miles is all that's needed.

I got out of useing race tires a few years ago and went with the newer street/track day tires with good results, but they have their limits.

Tires I've used for street and track have been the Dunlop D207GP/D208GP and D209 sportmax GP (yes race and DOT legal) {Bob, don't go there again :D  } tires and they do exactly what you mention, warm up in one lap. PLUS, riding normal on the street (speed limit plus perhaps 10 mph) they can last 8-10,000 miles with discreet throttle application. :?:

This year I used Metzler's SportTec race tires, K1 supersoft front, K2 soft rear and had no problems with them {well sort of, outside of trying to go too fast through Pocono T4 and lowsiding on exit in the dip of the track at the transition from infield to back straight} (Identical tire to Pirelli SuperCorsa, the race tire, a little less expensive because Metzler has no race contigency to pay for). The difference I noticed between the Metzler and the Dunlop was the Metzlers didn't slide as progressively although they don't snap loose like the Michelin's I've used. The Metzlers would stutter when pushed hard while leaned over which I didn't care for. I'm planning to go back to the Dunlop GPs this summer after I finish the last set of Metzlers off.

Interstingly and why did I try the following? Because FastFreddie ran a set at Pocono F-USA and didn't chunk them. What did I do? I ran a set of old Michelin rains on the street, 34 psi, ONLY doing the speed limits (+- 10 mph) in July of 2005 and experienced no chunking or other expected problems. Yes, I was surprised. I had purchased this set off Victor and had no doubts about this tire when the east course was drying out one day this spring (or was that last fall?) while working with the Code School at Pocono. BTW the track was still damp as no dry line emerged by the time the session dried out. John V and Kevin Eng know what I mean. <g>

I ran the last 2 CCS Midwest rounds (8 races total) on the same set of tires and won all but one of the races (2nd place LWGP).

The set of tires was a PR1 front and a regular pilot power rear. The regular pilot power rear last for FUCKING EVER! The tire still looks great. I like the sticky race front though.

No shitting I had a regular pilot power rear with 10 track days on it. I took it off just because. It's now on my street bike with about 5 thousand street miles.

    GREAT tires.

    GOOD CHOICE MONTE!!!! THANK YOU!!!

Wow...I stand by my Pilot Powers too, but your story is amazing!!! Out of curiousity, what bike are you racing them on? I didn't get quite the life from them on my 999 (but really good considering), but I love the grip.

Mike, what about the 2CTs...would you consider those for next season? I've yet to hear any solid feedback though, have to dig around for some reviews...

    Hello Kath,

I'm considering them, along with some others that I'll keep nameless.

I'm also probably going to get new tires each time. I only do a few events a year and I've never had a tire that worked as well at subsequent events as they do the first day. Some are very close but that's it. I've also had a few that were great when new but have gone off very abruptly on the second or third day and ended my day early.

    Hey guys

Hey if you guys are only running one track day or weekend , and then your buying new tires, how about letting me buy your takeoffs. Or I should say let me be the first in line. I can make a set last for a little while on my Mille. Thanks and can't wait for next year. Happy Hoildays. :D
