I hope to get into some racing events before too long and was wondering if the STT pro school was accepted by wera for the race education requirements. I will be looking into the others like CLASS but I'd like to stick with STT if possible since I have enjoyed it so far. let me know! thanks, Jeff
The PRO school is not even listed anymore on the website. So I don't know if it is gone or if it will change into something else. I went this past year and it is not setup as a race school. It ran somewhat like an LED with like a 2 to 1 student to instructor ratio, lots of individual attention. On the news page it does say to contact Monte directly about AHRMA or WERA licensing. I'm interested too, so it would be cool if STT Guy could post something in here.
hrmm, thanks for the info. I will keep an eye here but I will get in touch with monte when I am ready to do it if no other information comes up. I still need a little more experience anyways..
I have emailed monte a few times about this and have gotten no response .. this is pretty out of character for STT, so I'm wondering if maybe they are changing how they do something related to race licensing ? Either way, they could let me know that....
yeah the pro school is there, but I'm tryin to find out about race licenseing, which isnt part of the pro school.
From the bottom of the New page on the main website: "Sportbike Track Time is an approved AHRMA & WERA licensing school." Rather than specific lecensing school dates, I'm guessing that means upon request Monte will have a Staff member ride with you during a track day to determine if you are worthy of a license.
Well there is typically more to getting a race license then just being considered worthy of one.. from what I've read, there is a fair amount of classroom learning that goes along with the track portion... thats what makes it a school
If you are new to racing and do not have someone to show the ropes you need take a new racer school. Most of the club level racing bodies offer them and I would try to take the one from the organization you want to race in. They will show you what to safety wire and how, what all the flags mean and what to do, what's OK to do on and off the track, bike set up tips.... Plus it is a way to start meeting some of people who will become good friends. FYI: CLASS is not a race school
thanks for the advice .. I think I am going to take the class through CCS before the first race weekend I want to do. Idealy I'd like to get it out of the way before hand so I could preregister for the race weekend, but I will just take my chances with it the same weekend. Thanks again for the advice.. Jeff
actually reg's c.l.a.s.s. does qualify as a race school for a wera license. stt's pro school is also a race school for a wera license. stt is offering two of them. both at grattan the friday before the regional races there (june 23, aug 25) for wera, the process is: - take a race school that they accept (see their list on wera.com) - then send the certificate for that plus $100 to wera for a race license - they will supply you with a provisional novice license that will allow you to race two races - if you attend two race weekends with no crashes, you have a race official sign at both of the weekends and turn that signed provisional license in and then you you have a full novice license. you can also transfer a license from ccs to wera.
More good info, thanks for all the input I'm going to start with ccs since they seem to have more races in my area. I've decided to sign up for the class offered on a race weekend with CCS and then start racing that weekend. Seems like the best option at this point ... I do appreciate all the good info/advice! Thanks, Jeff
Bringing this back from the dead... Can someone confirm WERA recognizes 4/29 Pro School at Grattan for licensing? Thanks in advance
defiantly go racing. I suggest going to watch the next race near you. you will catch that bug. Plus there are many health benefits for racing like an excuse to make more money (works for me) and an excuse to hit the gym. My girlfriend is a personal trainer and she is always talking about people in her gym. When I ask what their sport is she says they used to play something or another. So they go to the gym to go to the gym. go to the gym to get your core dialed so you can hang like a monkey off that bike in your first race!
Another question about the Pro School but not in reference to a racing license. How is the instruction arranged? Is it similar to the Novice program where you meet your coach between sessions to discuss lines, trail braking, body position, markers? or is it just a few minutes after the session on the side of pit in lane and then go find them before the next session? Really interested in getting more one on one coaching just didn't know how formal the off track portion was and what other responsibilities the coaches may have for the day. Any insight would be appreciated.
You and your coach work 1 on 1 all day. You will fill out a survey once you register, This helps us place you with a coach. Be very open and honest on survey; take some time to really think about what you want out of the day as your filling it out. you will meet with your instructor before and after each session. Once your off track you will discuss the items you need/want to work on at your pit or ours. I attended Pro School a few years back with a friend and our coaches were with us talking about technique, Critiquing, and catering to our wishes every second. I was given a Race School Certificate at the end of the day and had my Provisional WERA License a couple weeks later. Our responsibilities for the day are you. Hope this helps. Big shout out to @Smalls!
Thanks Joshua. Exactly the type of info that I was looking for. This sounds like the next logical step for me to take to get to the lap times I am hoping for, but make sure I do it the proper way. Looks like I need to get things completed around the house this weekend so I can make this happen next week!
haha I read your post/blog about the Gala you were invited to, definitely pumped me up! I don't believe I'd stop doing track days, but I'm competitive by nature, so might as well race a few times a season. Thank you all, signed up for 4/29!
