    Hey everyone,

I'm new to trackdays and was wondering what to expect from the novice class. What kind of speeds do you hit, how do they approach the turns for the novice group and all that other fun stuff? My first day is at the Autobahn on April 29 and I'm sure there will be more after that. Kinda wish I still had my 600 for my first track day rather than my 05' gsxr1000 but oh well I guess I will just have to pay attention to the twist of the wrist. Thanks for you input

Welcome. The pace you run at any of our track days is basically up to you. It's not all about speed. It's about becoming more comfortable with your bike in a controlled environment. In the Novice group you will be split into groups of similar skills based on volunteered information, so don't be shy to ensure you'll end up in a group & pace that you are comfortable with. Be patient the beginning of the day, since it will start intentionally slow to give you time to learn the track at a reduced pace. As the pace picks up, if your group is a little too slow or fast, be sure to let your instructor know & they will work on moving you into a group that you are most comfortable with. As the day progresses, you will be given insight on various skills to work on each session to help improve your riding skills. Keep each skill in mind as you move on the next, since they are intended to work together in the end. The best advise I can give you going into your first event is to relax and think slow in & fast out, rather than starting the day going to fast into corners & scaring yourself & figuring out how to survive. Most of all, have fun & milk the instructors for as much help as you can. That's why we're there.

    Well Said!

The first time I rolled onto the track I was scared to death but by the end of the first session, most of the nervousness had changed to excitement.

Just take it slow and things will progress pretty quickly throughout the day. The first time your knee or toe hits the ground will scare the crap out of you....it did me anyway.

Also, resist the urge to blast down the straights. It is harder to judge your corner speed when you are slamming on the brakes. Just take it a little easier on the straights and figure out how fast you want to enter the corner. You will probably find that each time you go through the corner, you will be telling yourself that you could have taken it a little faster. So, the next time around you can do just that. Carry a little more speed into the corner.

The instructors at STT are great and the novice group provides excellent instruction for new track riders.

Thanks for the input, it'll be nice to not have to worry about cars sharing the road and be able to focus on my riding rather than the new driver pulling out in front of you. Do you know of any places to get trailers either to rent or buy? I don't want to spend more than $500 or so and would like a two place. I know it is probably asking alot. Thanks again.
