I'm going to have to get boots before I attend my first track day. The regulations say boots that cover the ankles. Do they have to be armored boots or will full leather riding boots work? Just looking at all that's out there. I'm leaning more towards something I can wear while just street riding but wanted to check before I spent the money. Here's an example of what I am referring to. http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/mpo/5420860762.html Thanks!
Those will be fine if that's the style you want. Guys even wear over the ankle work boots and cowboy boots. The race style boots offer you more protection during a crash. I always suggest dressing for the crash and not the ride.
Thanks for the reply guys. Having never worn riding boots, I just didn't want to limit my possibilities.
Those boots are definitely legal by the rules. But they aren't the best for protection. I have 2 used sets of boots I'm looking to sell. If you're 10-11 size shoe, drop me a message.
You'd be amazed how comfortable the full tilt race boots actually are. Having never worn boots, it will be an adjustment for you and I'd recommend riding around a bit in them before your TD as to not feel awkward on the bike. I've got quite a few specials on boots, shoot me a call if you have any questions.
Thanks Nick. I have a pair on their way here now. I'll give them a try before I show up for the track day for sure.
Do not make the Noob mistake that some of us made. Cheap Boots, Cheap Leathers, etc.... Three TDs later and we are trying to sell them and purchase better equipment because we know that we need it and we know that we are NOW ADDICTED. Borrow gear until you save up enough to buy the good stuff. LOL
That's good advice, and I appreciate it. I can't afford to get addicted though so I won't be purchasing much beyond what I already have. My boots arrived today and feel pretty good. I intend to rent leathers this first go around. I have the rest of the gear already. Thanks

True. I have a car I'm building as well though. Hence the screen name. It gets most of my attention and money.
Only time will tell. I've been riding since 1971.....dirt bikes, 4 wheelers, campaigned a drag bike one summer, Enduros, Hill climbing, general trail riding, Street bikes, and for the last 11 years, doing track days. I can honestly say that I've never had more fun and learned so much as the track days have afforded me.........I'm just sayin!
Thanks Vernon. That's what I like to hear. You're absolutely correct in that only time will tell. This is the first step for me, and I'm excited.
What's your first track day? I have all the extra gear (except for leathers) and headed to Barber on March 19. You can shoot me a message if you think you might need to borrow something that weekend.
I appreciate it, but I'm headed to Barber for the track day on 4/16. I only need to sign up for leather rental at this point.
