Just purchased a XT Ultra Lap timer and have a few questions.

The unit has a 8' cord so I plan on mounting the IR on an extra Cowl seat I have.

My original though is to mount the face and run the wiring under the tank and under the driver seat (around battery) and back to the rear seat storage area. Drilling a small hole in the extra cowl seat I have, feeding it through the hole and mounting it there. (2006 GSXR 1000)

    • Does this need to be zip tied/ Safety Wired for the track or will HD Velcro pass tech?
    • Does the wiring disconnect from the unit to feed through body work?
    • Anyone have a any pictures they can share of their installation?
    • Any Tips or tricks you can share

This will be my first time using a timer. I am not chasing 10ths by any means or trying to set any records...hahahahahah...but feel that this will be a great tool to help the over all picture. I will get to see where I am at personally (as a base) and where I can improve. I think that if I feel during a session that I went wide on an entry or came out of a turn not as strong as I could have...I would see it reflected on the timer. I know that there is only 1 beacon set up, so split times are out of the question.

My current goal is to get the "A" sticker. I wanted to try to achieve this goal by the end of this year so last Tally event I asked a coach to follow me and give some feedback. Not on the bump......but just an over all evaluation. He was very happy with everything (which surprised me). Said my lines were excellent and I was extremely predictable. He did give some awesome feedback on body position and how to improve body stability with my footing. But as he mentioned...that was more of a personal preference.

Needless to say...I personally didn't think I was ready for the "A" eval then. I wanted to be more comfortable before making the step. If that means a few more sessions/ trackdays in the meat-grinder.....then that's what it is. I am by all means in no rush.....but I do have a goal.

So....as I strive for my goal, I thought this would be a pretty cost effective way to help.

    Your thoughts?

Yes Velcro will not hold it on the tail by itself...At least mine didn't .... Run the cord under the tank, under the seat and drill 2 Holes on top of the tail with Velcro in the middle.. Remove the wire from the infra red side and just feed the wire through the tail and use a rubber grommet to protect the paint.. When Velcoed in desired spot then run a Zip Tie around it all but don't over tighten it.. You can keep it loose enough to flip it to left and right and the Velcro will give if not too tight.... Here is mine.... As far as using it to better your times yes they can be helpful however remember if your not racing traffic will play a part on your times.... Always remember it is YOUR responsibility to make a clean safe pass in any group and we are out there to have fun.... Not break any track records... There have been Months where I didn't even change the battery in mine because I could care less.. I like to pick turns and work on them each lap and focus on those turns then put it all together at the end of the weekend...

    Thanks!!! Absolutely makes 100% sense!

I am only out there to have fun, work on personal improvement and play safe 100% of the time.

I do understand that traffic will play a big roll in it. I also do as you mentioned many times. Pick a corner/ turn and work it...then move to the next corner/ turn that you think you can improve on and work it......

Without a Fork Bracket/ Holder...and a Scotts Damper on my Triple.....

Velcro the unit to the tank? I don't think I can get the bracket/ holder here by Friday if I order today (because of the holidays)

As far as the lap timer not many more pics to help other than read out placement... I do just use Velcro for that on the tach and it has been fine...

Anytime.... Just remember to put it as far left on the cluster that you can... The Gear Indicator is very close to it...

How do you Disconnect the wire from the ir box? Seems like it won't budge. Can't upload a file. The picture is to large.
    I have the ultra xt.

You have to open the ir box. The wire attaches on the inside of the ir box with a multi-pin connector.

I see the pin. ...just to skurd to pull on it. Don't know if it pulls vertical or horizontal.

Anyone wanna show this rookie a thing or two about electronics?

Will be track side in about 2.5 hours
