I've never used a quickshifter but I like the idea of being able to hold the throttle open and rail through the gears. Do they offer much of an advantage since you can clutchless upshift already? Thanks in advance.

depends ... are you chasing .10ths? honestly I like tech no matter what if you feel you can justify it... all my bikes have one... do I "NEED" them, no of course not, but it helps!
technically even when "power shifting" with out a QS you still have to roll slightly off the throttle while the shifter is loaded, complete the shift then get back on it..
as QS depending on the unit uses a push/ pull or a strain sensor as you lift or press your foot against the shifter it cuts the ignition while you are holding WOT and completes the shift...
I do feel personally that a QS is more seamless than the additional movements than that of power shifting. total time gained by using a QS is completely up to the rider...

there are more that can go into more depth I'm sure

If you are asking if you need it, you probably don't need it. I don't need it either. But I installed one and it is the most satisfying mod I have on my bike. The sound of going through the gears and shifting in a few ms... music to my ears!

Nice thread! I've been doing this for two years now and no quick shifter but I'm really tempted.

I always wondered, do they mess you up like around pits, or loading into trailer? I'm probably over thinking it :p

    your over thinking it...
your clutch and shifting will be just like normal if not using the QS... the TPS sensor bypasses the clutch .. but once clutch is engaged the shifter works normally..
so pull clutch in.. shift bike into 1st.. roll as normal now the option... pull clutch and shift like normal or use QS....

I'm my opinion I do not use my QS unless on the track/ spirited street.. or when I am atleast 70-80 % throttle ... other than that I pull the clutch like normal...

NOTE: most aftermarket QS systems only work when shifting up... EG.. 2-3-4-5-6..... only a few systems work down too...

Probably not going to help your lap times much but it's just kinda nice to have. They're sort of a luxury and quite frankly they arent all that expensive as compared to other go fast goodies like shocks, fork internals, slick tires etc...so I'd just go ahead and get it. Also, I have to admit that it's a really cool feeling to just bang through the gears when bombing down a long straight.

to be noted just as I feel I wouldn't be doing my duty without saying.. there are other things to spend money on first if your looking to spend money.... suspension tires... seat time..
go those? then by all means :)

The only bad thing about a QS is that it spoiled me! When it doesn't work I wanna cry.

The great thing I like about it is that it helps to keep my bike from upsetting if I up shift a gear while leaned, driving out a corner. QS and GP shift is a great combo.

I didnt think I would like it, but when my Triumph had a plug for it, I said why not. I bought a used Triumph QS from an R model for less than half price.I am so glad I did. Eventhough I dont race, its SOOO much fun, even on the street!

personally i believe its a great investment for our bikes & riding, it removes 3 actions and turns them into 1, it takes a little bit of reprogramming of the mind to leave the throttle wide open but they are a must once you have them.
