    R6 compression valve difference

Can anyone here tell if one of these an aftermarket valve just by looking at the cap? I have not yet disassembled the set that is on the bike and judging by the looks they might be different. The black set of tubes (still mounted) is '06 with unknown (presumably stock) internals, and the disassembled one is an '09 with ohlins 25mm kit.

    here are the pictures:

Most techs usually keep files for each rider/customer with all the specs/settings/etc.

Definitely an aftermarket valve on the '06 forks. I have no idea what brand that is though. Keep in mind the 08+ forks are different than 06-07 as well.

Haha, I'd blame the long winter; sometimes I brain fart in the beginning of the season about stuff like that. I would drop a thread in the R6-Forum if you can't figure it out, lots of uber-R6 guru's who could probably tell what part it is just by smelling it blind-folded. My guess would be K tech of Axxion but I can't be sure either.

By the looks of the fork cap, It doesn't appear to be an Ohlins 25mm kit. Maybe GP Suspension? ? Idk

That's not the fork cap, it's the compression valve.

so, when you buy the cartridge kit, are the valves included?

I'm honestly not too sure, as I have never ordered or installed a set on my bikes. If you look at the stock valve, which is also the same if not similar on all R6R models, you have two adjustments, the high speed compression which is the gold hex nut, and low speed which is the blue allen key insert inside the nut.

Usually a high speed compression curve is determined by the shim stack, so most bikes only have an adjustment for low speed. But most recent production bikes now have low and high, like the R6R. However, if you have cartridge forks which replace the shims, then the manufacturer might require changing the compression valve as well since the difference in shim greatly affects the adjustment of high speed compression overall. I'm kind of speaking on generalities so maybe someone else can clarify better. In short, I think your black forks probably have a cartridge kit or some type of internal modification since the compression valve is replaced with only a single adjuster.

Definitely not Ohlins. The 25mm kit leaves the stock compression cap in place

    Right.

Following Sobottka's observation, you might wanna double check those internals on the "ohlins" or take a pic of the fork cap. I didnt think ohlins 25mm came with those either unless they were added.

I think those are right. I took it apart as much as I could without the cartridge tool. Removed all stickers of people that did not call me back, re-honed the inner tubes and now I have to wait for oil and dust seals.[IMG]

Well.... those are Ohlins 25mm fork caps shown in this pic. Maybe they just did something different with the compression valve ????
