My 2005 ZX-6RR has a 200 series rear tire. I would like to get a second set of wheels w/ pre-mounted rain tires so I am good-to-go rain or shine. Do I need to stick with the same wheel size? Or, if I go to a smaller wheel width do I need a swing arm change too??

    Thanks,
    Steve

    200 Is ReallyWide I Would Suggest A 180 Or 190 At Most

Your bike came new with a 180/55/R17 rear tire.....and most likely a 5.5 inch wide wheel. You need to make sure that the wheel that is on there is a 17 x 5.5 inch wheel (stock or equiv. after-market) and that the swingarm is the original and not something that has been altered. If all of that proves true, buy a set of rains and a set of spare wheels that fit the original bike setup. I'm not sure why someone would put a 200 series tire on that wheel. Hopefully, someone will come along that can enlighten you even a bit more.

My buddy ran the 195 Dunlop slicks on his 600rr for a while. Those are as big as a 200/55 tire if not bigger. However you should run the 190/55 or 180/55 tire sizes.

07-08 swingarm bolts up, but is a little longer, just need to use the spacers that go with the proper wheel, if you go that route

Bottom line: assuming I have the stock swing arm (this is a relatively new bike for me) can I simply mount up a 180 rain tire/wheel combo? Or, is the fact that the bike came w/ a 200 dry tire mounted signify that I do not have the stock swing arm??

I realize I need to check out my wheel to verify that it is a 5.5 inch?

    Thanks,
    Steve

yes that is stock, yes the wheel is 5.5 in, and the bike comes from factory with a 180 fitted ... i just switched from 180 to 190 on my 5.5 in r6 rear wheel for dry riding and LOVE IT .. so much grip so switch to a 190 when ur tire wears.. or now and ull be good ... as far as rain tires get a 5.5 in rear wheel and whatever the front is and for a new or even intermediate track rider in my opinion a 180 will do fantastically .. thats what i now have is 180 rain and 190 dry each on a 5.5 in wheel and no problems thus far my friend

Nothing wrong with a 180. I rode on a 180 on my gsxr 600 and 750 for years. Even did my first 2 or 3 races on a 180. Only switched to a 190 because I got a UK Dunlop with a bike I bought.

A 200 rear slick fit on my 5.5 rim! They fit! Now why? Because the tire guy wanted to make a buck and sell to an unsuspecting customer that didn't know any better!

i figured theyd fit i bet itd rele take some effort to get a 200 on a 5.5 tho .. my 190 has an unbelievably tall profile on my 5.5 and i love it .. i get elbows down in turns with my 190 and still have 1/2" before the wear is to the edge of the tire where with my 180 i was at the edge and felt limited just gettin knee down .. so 190 is the way to go IMO .. i think id be able to float across the track with a 200 itd be able to lean so much lol motogp uses 190's so IMO again, i think 200 is irrelevant .. but to each their own .. my buddy swears by his 180 i like my 190 and some like 200's

I run a 195 on my R6. A 200 is not a problem, maybe not better but you should be fine and theres no reason you cant mount up a spare set of 180's just be aware of the geometry changes which will likely be significant
