HI all, I just got my STT membership. Friend and I are going to Road America in July 14/15. Novice group is where we'll be starting as the closest thing I have done to riding on a race track is parade laps during the AMA events. Anyway I have some questions to the people who know how everything works there. As far as camping @ the track (what to bring) Camper tent? Fuel is it easier to bring your own? Ez-up tent for paddox tools ..etc? Anything info that will help me prep for the event will help. Thanks in advance
Awesome race track to do your first track day at. Welcome to STT. I do not think they allow camping at RA during private events. There are a number of camp grounds rite outside the race track or you can stay at a number of Hotels in Elkhart Lake. I recommend Siebkins. Yes, bring your own fuel otherwhise you will pay 10 dollars a gallon at the track. Bring a 5 gallon can and fill the tank up on your bike. If you want shade, bring an Easy Up. Bring all of your tools. If you don't have tools or need help people will help you handle anything with your bike to get you out on the track. Make sure you have good newer tires on your bike, make sure your brakes are in good condition, make sure your chain and sprockets look good. Your bike should be in perfect running order and safe to ride. If you have any questions about bike set up a staff member will help you out. Enjoy your time at beautiful Road America. Come out to the AMA races at the beginning of June.
You'll love Novice group as a way to get up to speed and learn the intricacies of high-performance riding. We pride ourselves in our abilities as coaches, and live to help guys and gals just like you. There is literally a ton of info available for free and another forum on a site called trackdaymag.com (shameless plug....) Give it a look, and we'll see you at Road A!
Welcome!! Nick D pretty much covered everything you need to know. Please make sure you check the "Requirements" section on the main STT page. There are a few bike preparations that have to be completed prior to tech inspection at the track. Again, welcome aboard.
I called RA and they told me there is camping availiable the 13th and 14th. Anyway thanks for the tips guys. I have my own leathers, boots, gloves. So I'm good there. I think the only thing I need for the bike is a new set of tires. The rest is just unplug and swap street to race stuff. Mirrors ,tail etc.... Maybe an oil change and some engine ice....
Dont forget some cold water to help cool ya down from the excitement. You are about to be bit by the bug like u have never been bit before. Welcome TO THE NEW ADDICTION.
Welcome to STT, You'll have a great time as all the STT instructor are really great at getting you comfortable and up to "your speed" . Bring a case of bottle water, freeze 1/2 the night before. These will act as extra ice and by the end of the day/or 2nd day they'll still be parlty frozen or atleast still cold. All the other thing to bring check the riding form there are list that cover everything!!! Don't forget a folding chair & EZup, but the Novice class you'll spend 1/2 the off track in classroom, class-track-15 minutes-track-class-ect. Get ready to sign up for more days after your first weekend and have your suspension setup. Not sure who does it in your STT area but Kenny at SuperBike did mine at the track and it was the best thing. Made the bike more stable and has extended the "short" life of my track tires!
Make sure you bring plenty of fuel and check it often!!You do NOT want to run out of fuel there. The track has 3 flat out straight's and she suck's fuel real good!!You'll love it!!
