At road Atlanta a couple weeks ago, I tried out my new xrac pads on my recently honed galfer wave rotors. I am a bit concerned that I didn't bed them in properly since they feel a bit rough at pit speeds and seemed to have fairly noticeable fade. Rotors are pretty dark and I only did three sessions due to an oil leak and then weather. Shred on..

How do y'all bed in new brakes at the track? I'll be at barber next weekend.

Make it an even $8000.00 and you have yourself a deal.

I will also be bedding in some new pads, but I threw some new rotors on as well (a set of OEM rotors I had on my rains). Any suggestions on new rotor brake in? I assume there is a process to brake in a new set of rotors and not overheat and warp them.

My guess is that they would be heat treated for you.

I would think so too but I would hate to warp a new set of rotors. I also just installed a new RCS19 so I am looking forward to seeing how these new pads and master cyl feel.

My front rotors have rust on them from sitting all winter and getting wet. I guess a couple times hard braking should clean them up nicely. #shrugs

The way most manufacturers say to bed in new pads is to:

    - clean off the old rotors to remove any carbon. Some people say washing with brake cleaner is sufficient, some use steel wool, emory paper, etc. All I've ever used is brake cleaner..

    - with the new pad on, go out and make a few slow speed, calm stops from 30 MPH or so, then move up to 60 and do it again, progressively harder...after 3-5 they are probably bedded pretty good.

    - First session out, don't go full bore, just work them up gradually. After that, you are ok.
