I'm gettin my duc ready for Saturday at Autobahn and I wanted to double check the requirements for safety wire and numbers. I didn't see anything special to run Intermediate except waterwetter and the usual stuff, lights, mirrors etc. Did I miss anything?

Looking forward to getting out with everyone! Haven't seen the track since Road America last May. Looks like we should have a great weekend!

Jethro I am sure one of the staff members will pipe in but I'll give you this to get you going.

I would wire your oil filler cap and your oil filter. Buy a hose clamp and secure it with wire to the bike. What I have always said is.. if I have removed the bolt more than twice, I wire it (within reason, i.e., I do not safety wire the windscreen).

Get rid of the cotter pin for the rear wheel and get the looped type that you wire a the bottom and secure it to the swingarm. Break line banjo bolts if you have time and your front pinch bolts. Also the easy one; your grips. That should keep you busy for a little bit.

As for numbers I would go with a contrasting color to the bike in block numbering about 5" tall. Red Duc = White Numbers. Black Duc = White, Yellow, Silver Numbers

    Have fun!

If you are going to wire your oil filler cap and oil filter, go ahead and wire the oil drain plug(s) as well.

Ever seen the drain plug on a Ducati? Pretty hard to drill, there ain't much there. The drain, and the screen are almost flush to the case with recessed internal wrenching type heads. I did the filter and the filler as well as the grips and the rear wheel nut safety clip. Glycol is out and water wetter is in.

Headlights. tail lights, mirrors and signals are removed since they come off almost as easy as taping them up.

I was going to put my old NESBA  number on her but I figured I would wait to see if I go for a race licence this year and get a number that means something.

That should do it for now. Nothing stopping me but fear and good judgment at this point. 18hrs till launch! :D

    See ya there.

Yup - it's a real PITA to wire... But since I tend to change the oil often (dedicated track bike), I have gotten use to it.

You can actually drill the plug in place. (I did) Anyways it is a PITA, but it can be done.

If you drill it on the bike, be sure of your aim. I had a customer do this and hit the gasket surface. It wasn't a big leak but it was a leak. A small amount of epoxy in the hole and a new gasket fixed it but it's better to avoid it in the first place.

Glad I read this post, I didn't know that numbers AND safety wire were not required for intermediate! I thought everyone had to al the very least wire their drain plug for instance.

Question... since we've covered just about all the other prep in this topic, are bikes allowed to run Engine Ice or do I have to switch to water wetter to pass tech with STT?

Dutch doesn't like it either.... So for NESBA dates, I ride my 748.

I wish that Dutch & Monte would have a cone duel at 5 paces to end the Engine Ice stalemante once and for all!

Well, I'll leave the engine ice in the bike then. I really don't want to change it again anyways, especially at 10 bucks a quart. Thanks fer the info!

Gasket? Are you talking about the crush washer on the drain plug?
