It's not necessary to be a member; we regularly waive membership requirements in the eastern division for the dates that we do with absolute, such as this one. However, there are significant benefits to STT membership; $35 gets you a pretty sweet shirt and substantial discounts ob Michelin tires that are worth well more than the cost of joining.
