Thats correct. I removed the spring. The damping rod will slide back down during re-assembly if you dont hold it up with something.A small bit of fuel line "screwed" on to the threads allowed me to hold it up while my buddy put on the top spacer thingy and then we used the spring compression holder to keep it up while i re-screwed in the top cap.
