One of the bikes I'm considering as a track-only bike is the SV650. Is there an advantage to either the base model or the 'S' model with respect to converting to track-only? For example, do people keep the factory clip-ons and/or fairing brackets from the 'S' model? Or do you start with the base model and build up from there? Thanks in advance -- I can't decide what to buy for next year, too many choices!
go with the s model for a few reasons you will need those fairing bracket mounts on the frame to mount your new body work, you will be able to use he factory fairing stay also, and the gauges on the s model is set right in the f. stay as for the clip ons most people dont use them but you can, i would recomend wood craft clipons and rearsets, you can also sell the stock upper fairing on e bay and if you are going to get aftermarket body work i highly recomend sharkskin installation is pretty much a no brainer if you can aford it.............hope i helped............wayne
Thanks, Wayne, that helps a lot! The gauge issue is something I hadn't thought about, which is why it's great to have people like you who know these things.
I bought myself an early Christmas present yesterday, Barry C's 2007 SV650S. I can't wait for spring!
Is it not feasible to put clip ons on the base model? I have an '05 and was thinking of putting them on.
you can put aftermarket clip-ons on the non-S bike, but you will have to get an after-market headlight bracket if it's going to be a street bike. Stock clip-ons will not work unless you get an S model top triple clamp.
I was able to modify the head light bracket. I cut out enough of the bracket for the clip ons and mig welded it back together. It took some doing routing them but all the brake lines, and cables worked. I bought the LSL offset clipons from STT.
