Hello, this is Chris. I was in the Novice group (3) at Talladega. I was on the black Gixxer 600 with a gray tank, #463. 2nd bike... I went down during the last session on Sunday. I want to thank everyone that helped with loading up my bike and packing up my pit while i was being carried to the hospital. I was worried about my bike etc, it made me feel a better when they told me that everything was packed up and secure. I wish i could thank everyone individually for their help. As far as me, i had a concussion, 2 broken ribs on my right side and my left collarbone was destroyed. It was broken in many places. There were 3 large pieces and several smaller pieces ranging from the size of a dime down to just powder. I had surgery 2 days ago. They put a metal plate in there and used 4 screws to try to bring the 3 large pieces together in hopes that they will grow/fuse together. I will recover, rebuild my bike over the winter and be back next spring. My 1st trackday will be at Talladega...it has to be. Other than the wreck, i had a great weekend. I felt like my riding improved and i had a great time. The STT staff/instructors/control riders are top notch! Thanks again, Chris
Chris, I am glad your OK.. I was Coaching that session but was on the otherside of the track when it happened... Heal up well and get back on 2...
Glad to know that you are doing ok Chris. Sorry to hear about your get-off but glad to know that you are willing to get right back out there. I was also on the other side of the track when it happened so I was wondering how you went down. Hope to see you back at Tally next spring.
Hey, Chris. I was behind you a ways, just coming into the braking area when you went off in a cloud of dust. Glad you will recover and your spirits are high! See you at Tally next year.
Thanks everybody! It was rough for a while before the surgery. The bone fragments floating and moving around was aggravating as hell and one of them was only a few layers of skin away from poking through the top of my shoulder  5 more weeks in this sling and then i start physical therapy. The bike is still in the trailer. Every time i look at it i want to puke. Once i can use both arms, ill pull the bike out and see exactly what i need (after i make sure the frame/forks etc are straight). I know i need a new gas tank, rear section and subframe. The tank is flat and the subframe broke completely off but the fairings and sliders are pretty much ok, which makes me think the bike flipped end over end. :?: I don't remember any of it.
I don't remember any of it. [/quote] From my many past expierences in the "bowl" That is the same result I had.
Broken collarbones suck , glad you are ok . If you think it hurts now wait until physical therapy ....Just kidding . (not really )
at least you got a sling , they just wrap us up with duct tape in canada and tell you to play hockey for physio
Chris, saw the dust and you standing up... sorry to hear about all the injuries! i broke my collarbone for the second time last fall, after 7 (yes 7!) weeks of no healing, they finally did the surgery. after a week and a half, i could move it almost completely. mine was no where near as bad as yours (ewww) with the multiple pieces, but so far it is very strong! heal up and good luck with the PT!
Thanks! The broken pieces ranged from even with my armpit to almost sticking out the top of my shoulder. They told me that i had no choice but surgery, it would never heal as is. Oh well, at least i have a story to tell. I guess breaking something at the racetrack is more admirable that falling off a ladder or slipping in the shower.
