every tire gauge can have it's problems. don't spend all the dough. as a 20 year automotive Quality Manager...here's my advice on maintaining accurate gages. buy (2) cheap gages from Autozone that match readings. Then check them against a known accurate gage...not some buddy that bought an uber expensive gage and therefore knows it's accurate...or some dude that swears that since his is digital and displays to the 1/10 of a psi that it is accurate...or because it's liquid sealed it's impervious to error. compare it to the big standard they have at the AMA rounds at the tire tent, or compare it with someone's who has done that. Then just note if you are one psi high, .5psi low....whatever. In the 18-30psi range...the offset will be linear. It's the zero that the gauges lose track of. Then whenever you doubt or question your gage, compare it to the other one. Both will not fail at the same time.
Good advice...guess I was just hoping to find reliability and accuracy in the same package somewhere.
I've used these for years. Cheap. Small. Digital. Accurate. Zeros with slight valve stem engagement. I've checked them repeatedly on calibration equipment at GM's Proving Grounds & they're always within 0.5psi: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DIGI...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
I picked up the digital air gauge from Slime. Part number 20071. It has about 8 inches of hose to reach inside between the rotors so your not trying to get a slide style gauge in there. Seems to work really well.
it is easy. auto shut-off. it's showing my old needle type gauge (which i've dropped many times) as consistently 3lbs under. I'm going with the accutire.
I've checked several of the Accu Tire gauges on calibration equipment at GM's proving grounds & every one has always been withing 0.5psi accross a range of pressures. Quality product for sure.
All of them. People were always borrowing mine, so I bought a box, checked them all, & offered them to the borrowers for $10 each. They're all good. They re-zero themselves with a slight engagementm too. Well worth the price. Trust me on this one.
don't get me wrong...i have and use accu-gage stuff. just 20 years of quality mgmt tells me you never know where zero is without a standard. or at minimum a control. (and digital is zero advantage over analog.....zero) i'll shut up now.
from jigmoore: and how do you know that it's the new one that's correct? because it's digital? <shaking_head> touché jigmoore. I WAS impressed with the digitality of it and the fact that it's on a keyring. I guess in the end, it's all in the seat of your pants.
