Hey, just wanting to know if anyone owns or has used the Trailer in a Bag. I've got to buy some sort of trailer this year and since I live in Manhattan I really need to keep it in a smaller storage space. Any comments or thoughts on how sturdy these are and any maintenance issues? Thanks, Kath kathis@mindspring.com '03 999 Yellow mono
I saw it at the Chicago Motorcycle Show, but have never used it. Looked like it would work if you just doing a few days a year. I used a fold up trailer from Harbor Freight for a couple years and it worked well. Folds in half and stores away nicely. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=90154 Hope this helps.
Just one caveat with the Harbor Freight trailer, which I have used for the past couple years: While it does an admirable job as a trailer, the casters on which you're supposed to roll the thing around are an absolute joke. The casters on mine broke within seconds of trying to maneuver the trailer around my garage. It shouldn't be too difficult to upgrade them, but just beware that the factory-supplied jobbies do not get the job done. If you plan on rolling the trailer around much, budget from some upgraded wheels.
I bought a used Trailer in a Bag two years and about 50 track days ago. I haul my R6 behind an Acura RSX for mostly local tracks (50-75 miles) but have used it for much longer trips on several occasions with no problems and best of all, 30 miles per gallon or so. I don't disassemble the trailer during the season, but just stand it up on one side of the garage. I regularly drive 70-80 mph with very little sway and find the little trailer very stable when the bike is loaded, but don't even try to trailer it empty as it will bounce all over the place. I only paid $400 or so for this and know they are pricey new. If I was going to buy one new, I would seriously consider a Kendon or a Baxley.
If your RSX is silver, I'm pretty sure I saw you a few years ago on the highway going to Autobahn. We thought for sure your bike was going to fly off from the trailer bouncing around. Probably says more about Chicago roads than your trailer... I also have a cheap 4x8 foldup trailer similar to the harbor freight style that gets the job done and stows away nicely in a single car garage w/ a car and a bike. However, as stated in the above posts, the casters that it rolls on when folded do not function. That's my only complaint.
