I'm planning on doing a road ride the 3rd weekend in September and need some recommendations for routes through Southern Ohio, West Virginia & Virginia. I'll probably drop a truck near Columbus and ride South toward Deal's Gap, but I'd like to take the scenic (read: Curvy!) way on 2-lane highways wherever possible. Let me know if you've got some favorite roads I should include on the way to Tennessee! -Tom
No direct experience with S. Ohio roads, but here's a link that might be helpful - http://www.buckeyebeemers.org/stories/soab.favorites.html Have fun.
http://www.motorcycleroads.us/oh.html Lots of good roads in Southern Ohio. ususally in decent shape to. 555 can kick your butt so be careful on it , many to chose from . Have fun WHen you are in Deal Gap area dont waste your time on the gap the Cherehola , Richard B Russell , the Skyway , much better , less PoPo presence. If you DO ride the Gap , do it no later then Thursday , to many squiddies and police about . Have fun , just got back from there a couple of weeks ago. Had a great time 650 miles in 3 days riding, never went more then a 1/4 mile without a turn
Southern Ohio 800 (Uhrichsville to Fly) nice restaurant in Sardis - take 7 north from Fly 250 (Wheeling to Uhrichsville) 83 (Coshocton to Millersburg) 26 (Marietta to Woodsfield) 666 (Zanesville to Dresden) BE CAREFUL, alot of people have wrecked on this road and in one particular corner!!! West Va 7 (New Martinsville to Hundred) another nice little restaurant in Hundred 250 (Hundred to Wheeling then up through OH) If you are an AMA member there is a section in the members only for great roads.
I agree with racedoll 250 from Cadiz to WV is nice and twisty, from Uhrichsville to Cadiz is ok, nice view of the lake, watch for cops from Uhrichsville to Cadiz they hang near the lake. 800 isn't too bad, just watch for cops, they hang around from Uhrichsville to Freeport.
Thanks for all the input, guys! I'll be leaving shortly after I print off a few maps... I'll let you all know how it went! -Tom
