So had a nice little get off in T1 at Mid-ohio last month. Take my bike into the dealer to get estimate done on it. Estimate took almost two weeks to do. Once I get through the red tape that is insurance companies now I decide to buy the bike back from them. I go down there yesterday to pick the bike up and noticed my Scott's Dampner is gone. Ask the dealership about and they tried to blame it on the insurance guy that came to look at the bike. Which is complete bull crap. So told him I have pictures when it was dropped off that has me, the service guy, and my bike with the dampner in clear view. I'm giving them till today to produce my part otherwise i'm moving it up the chain. Anyone have any kind of a problem like this before? What did/do you suggest?
Yes, indeed. the whole front of my bike was missing after the estimate. basically it was naked to the air intake. even the speedometer was gone. the dealership said it was all in the box and the insurance took it. the insurance said if they took it from the dealership, the auctioning house had it. the auctioning house said they never got it, etc. i gave up! the bike was auctioned for way more than i was able to pay for, so in the end it didn't really matter to me. it's great that you have pictures of when you dropped it off. good luck. if they are smart, they will make it "appear" again!
They're sticking with their story of I don't know what happened to it and that's it, don't know what to tell ya. Said he's going to talk to the owner on Monday to see what he can to to resolve this. Aaaaarrgggg.
ha, the pics are still online. before: and after, as posted at the auction site. missing quite a bit, huh? maybe even just threatening with calling the cops might help. and scott's is something you can transfer to another bike, it's not stock, and you should have every right to it.
Damn yeah there seems to be something missing there. I talked to the Insurance Estimator that looked at the bike and he said what they are doing is border line insurance fraud. Said he was going to call them and let them know he's none to happy with them claiming he took the part off. This is rediculous.
At least call the cops to see if they can do anything. Maybe a call from the cops would help them remember....On top of a call from the Insurance inspector... When I totaled my CBR, the dealership called me and asked me if I wanted to remove anything from the bike. When I said no, they ASKED if they could... Sorry to see you have to deal with something like this, please keep us updated...
Oh I think everyone in Charleston knows to stay away from Dohm's. If it wasn't for the lawyers going in there buying 4-wheelers and cruisers they wouldn't have any business. Only reason I went there cause a guy I work with suggested them and said they'd do it quick and I'd be back in business in no time. Last time I listen to him.
I think we need to have a section to post insurance bikes. I would love to have an opportunity to buy some of these "totaled" bikes before they go to auction.
it is different from state to state, but in IL, IN and OH you can not buy those bikes except at the auction. you need two of the following * Dealer License * Rebuilder License * Repairer License * Recycler License * Exporter License * Dismantler License * Scrap Processor License" you have to be lucky and know the stock number and location of the bike. i am in IL, but the bike was auctioned in OH. go figure.
you can buy the bike back before your claim is finished. So if someone got ahold of you before you finalized your claim you could get it back. I just did this with my f4i that was totalled for someone.
Yeah all I did was when the insurance company, I have State Farm by the way, called me and told me my payment for my totalled bike was ask if I could by it back. He said yes and that he would have to ask the Demo department what the price would be and put me on hold. Came back 2 minutes later and gave me the price and that was it. Took it out of my payment and now i'm the proud owner once again of my bike. Minus the dampner!!!!!!
if they can't find that damper... they should replace it with a brand spanking new one.... .02 Goodluck though. That's some shady business
wow!! congrats! how old was the bike? there is this 10 year or something regulation in IL. if it's older than 10, then yes you can do it.
Yeah this is what my buddy did two years ago. I told him if he didn't buy the bike back I would give him the money so that I could. It ended with him paying 600 for a 2003 RC51. Final bill to get the bike back on the track was 3400.00 That was with damper and upgraded suspension included.
Who's the dealer..... I'll out them on teh WERA forum, CCS forum, Sporbikes.net, the STT site etc.,..... Basically I'll make it my mission to f#$k with them any chance I get. Also, make a police report for petty theft and do it IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT
