Anybody know if barber allows you to walk the track the friday before? Headed to Barber on 5/17. Thanks!
+1 Been going to Barber at least 3-4 times a year for like 6-7 years and I have only seen them allow a track walk twice. And then it was Saturday evening. That is unfortunate because you really can't appreciate all of the different cambers and elevation changes at speed.
Did the Desolvo school. Brian made. Arrangement to walk track. WOW, is all I can say. If and when you can, do it. Good luck.
IF you get lucky, AND you beg Trevor enough, sometimes on Saturday evenings...maybe 2x a year on average...
And mostly it is on the corner worker tram. I was there after the tornado swarm and they actually let people walk around which was AWESOME! I got to check somethings that I had wondered on for a while.
The first time I walked it I was mostly surprised about the elevation changes. It isn't noticeable at speed, but there isn't a single place on the whole track that is flat.
It is far better to ride around the track ! Reason one: It is much quicker than strolling ! Reason two: Walking does not give you the sensation of riding, you will feel the bumps pick your line and find your brake markers ! Reason three: There are more reason's to express from other rider's riding the track that I am sure other opinions will enter this statement. Reason four: I have ridden the track since 2007 as a student and now an instructor/track coach it is far better to ride and learn the black ribbon of rapid movement !
I have heard stories of people attempting to jump the fence and walking the track at night, they were never heard from again. Years later, I think that I saw one of their bikes in the museum!
only some most turn there :fencing: there is also a rollout between 2/3 that catches some people out (though I have not seen it lately so maybe the grinding changed it). You would never see it unless you are standing there. I do think it is flat after the chicane though so you are exagerating op:
