You ever been at the front of pit road when there is an un-usually large number of racers there that day? It nearly is, just without assigned grid positions LOL. OK not really, but you will see guys jockey for position on pit road, and try to win the out lap sometimes LOL
We (Jake and crew) have done both this year. We have only raced the 600 4x with WERA. We have done I think 3X that many trackdays(weekends). I think...no, I know it has/will make him a better racer. When we do go to a race, this kid cuts thru traffic and lappers like nobodies business. Does he go as fast at a TD than at a race? No, but when he hits the grid, he is sure to drop 1-2 seconds just by having his raceface on. Many racers have accused him of "ducking" them doing TDs instead of racing...yet his lap times say different. We started the year off with STT with a plan, and we have stuck to it. I know Jake will be better because of it. He has actually chosen to do an STT TD instead of going to a race. Everyone from the staff to the other riders have helped him get better and closer to his goal...to be the best rider he can be. Next year we will probably be focussing on more races as it will be his last amateur year, but we will continue to go to as many STT TDs as we are allowed. The TDs have pretty much made him what he is right now...there are just some things you cannot learn during a race! Thanks everyone, Tdub!!
The GMD cert's help out? I hope so should have given all of them to you, think your the only one to use them. sorry OT.
Oh yeh absolutely. GMD has since picked Jake up as a full sponsored rider along with Racetech. Thanks again. Tdub
On the subject of trackdays slowing racers down. You can go back and look at George from the southern STT division( can't remember how to spell his last name) sorry George. Last year he made racing look easy. At Tally I watched him run off and leave everybody VERY far behind. Racer or not the guy is just damn fast
doing a LOT of trackdays I think will instill a conservative nature in you that will become second nature...... that can make you not aggressive enough during a race. I dont know that TDs make you slower lap wise at all, but they dont make a great "racer". There is a difference in going fast, and racing for sure.
Jake already knows how to race. He is not trying to hone his race craft out there. He is getting seat time on that bike, and how to make IT go fast. I know you know this tryce, so this is just for anyone else reading....... There is a huge difference in piloting your bike fast, and "race craft". Being able to turn fast laps does not mean you are a great racer by any stretch
