if I go from an '05 cbr600rr to an '07, what is the best way to know if parts, e.g., vortex rearsets, sprockets, rotors, brake pads, etc., will fit on the newer bike?

I was thinking compare part #s on Bikebandit or similar.
but, I wonder if a part WOULD fit, but still have a different # based on its year.

    any ideas?

Some stuff will fit and some stuff won't. For example, I know everything on my bike works from 08-10. Other stuff works 06-11. I'm not too familiar with CBRs, but if there were no changes made to the bike in that time aside from color options, you should be good to go. However, if there was an appreciable design change in 06 or 07 you're more likely to run into compatibility problems.

Aftermarket companies like Vortex are usually pretty good about having an answer to direct questions about the fitment of their parts.

A cheap (not free) way to find out is scour craigslist for the part you're looking for, contact the seller and see if you can give him/her a couple bucks to take some measurements. Sometimes you'll need a micrometer, sometimes you'll need a yardstick (metaphorically speaking). Measure the bolt patter/spacing and see if matches your bike exactly.

Of course if you're buying new parts, order them and return them [in new condition] if they don't fit. One thing you can do is remove your old part and see if the mounting points and thickness of the part (sprocket, rotor) match up. Scientific? No. Will it work? No idea. But you rarely find out the answer without trying and sometimes it pays off.

The rear wheels and entire assembly of parts will fit. Front sprocket will fit. front brake pads are the same. Front wheel and rotors are not. Rear sets will work. However, there is some difference, so you may end up frankensteining them with an 07+ shift rod or something.

Case covers, fairing stay, motor parts, etc are all different.

My teammate rides an 07 and I ride an 05, so we tried everything.

You can always call a honda dealership an ask them too but I think the above post pretty much covered it

You sure about the front wheels? I could be wrong, but I could have sworn we had a set of '06 wheels as spares. I was thinking that the spacers were different. Just wondering

I know the spacers are different. All the part #'s are different too.... that doesn't mean that they actually are different. We never actually attempted this one.
