or, in my case, crash on Saturday AND Sunday, be sore and thankful on Monday. I am thoroughly ASTONISHED that I am not hurt. both get-offs were at pretty high speeds (Brett? didn't you see both? estimates of speed, please) and resulted in lengthy rolls/slides/bounces. Sat: T1, session before lunch, not even finished with 1st lap, brand new tire, water on track. my fault entirely for not babying the tire for a few laps. and I was off my usual, preferred line due to proximity to another rider. gentle low-side, slid on track until I hit the grass, then tumbled a few times and ended up in gravel. broken rib from 3 weeks before (only recently pain free) was undamaged. bike: broken fairing stay, some plastic rash, tons of rocks in/on bike, ground off clutch lever end. THANKS E AND SANDY for picking all that stuff out. Trevor had another stay within 5 minutes (thanks to whomever I bought it from). I was back on track after lunch for a decent rest of day. Sun: T13-ish, tires well worn in, probably 7th lap of 1st session after lunch. coming up tunnel hill at a good clip, best I can say is front was fully compressed at bottom, got light at top under acceleration and washed. again, slid first, then flipped onto my back and slid A LONG WAY, then flipped some more til I ended up face down nearly at the fence. I saw the bike flipping through the air as I was sliding. again, rib undamaged. only quarter sized abrason on should blade. amazing. certainly, I'm sore, but both of these could have been MUCH worse. bike: another broken fairing stay! under tail aluminum box cracked both sides (weldable), tank dented (no leaks), plastics: some pieces repairable, (upper is done), some broken strands on pull throttle cable (could be old and unrelated), bent both clip-on tubes*. I'll check straightness of forks this week. If I hadn't been wearing a back pro, I doubt I would have been riding after the 1st get-off. I doubt I'd be typing after the 2nd one.... thanks to all who helped w/rebuild, etc. and everyone who came to check on me. Nate and Lance: I hope the next time we meet there is no truck/trailer involved. see you all in 3 weeks. *I had tightened the clip-ons only enough to keep them in place while riding bike (~20lb/ft); this allowed them to move in a crash situation and probably prevented worse damage.
Glad to hear you came out of each one as well as you did. That is all that matters in the end. Ltyson Sent using Tapatalk
I'm glad you're ok. I really liked the way you managed to get grass and dirt jammed between your rims and tires. You and Emily have been having bad luck with crashing, starting at the end of last year! Just stay away from paintballing and get a massage or take Mark's advice and "rub your own back!"
I found throttle cables for $10, a guy to weld the rear box for $90, another buddy is making a metal exhaust hanger (forgot to say the CF one got tweaked beyond repair), fairing stay for $39 on ebay and a few other things. all in all, not too bad and I've met my get-off quota for the season! if it's not all back together before I flag for CSS at barber in 2 weeks, Emily has foolishly allowed me to ride her bike. SUCKA! again, thanks for all the help and wellwishing.
Oh gosh - 2 crashes in 2 days, that's awful!! So glad to know you came out alright! And Emily should not let you ride her bike So how long have you all had these gsxr's? I seem to recall she had a CBR last season, right? And then I remember you saying it was easiest if you all had the same bikes, but did you already have a gsxr? It's time for Yamaha's!
sherry, after E's get off at jennings last dec, we decided to get 2 bikes of the same ilk. thus, the 2 gsx-r750's. the cbr sits, shamed, in the garage. we may make it naked. she loves that bike and we will resurrect it, but it's not a pressing thing.... for the now, I have to put $$ towards my wreck. we're looking fwd to barber in may w/STT!
I realized that after I got on the road Sunday afternoon. I guess I will have to keep buying beer for a while.
Check your rims to make sure they are straight. If that was your bike that I saw pictures of with grass sticking out of everything I'd be surprized if you didn't bend one. Fronts bend real easy on those gsxrs.
thanks, they are good. I already had Matt break the bead, clean and remount/balance both wheels. he said they are fine.
What are you guys talking about? Crashing? John don't crash. That's just howhe "pits in". The quicker you tuck and roll the quicker you can get out of your leathers. That and the fact that he is good friends with the crash truck drivers.
