Saw this http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/mot_indianapolis_gp_crash and got really spooked that it was Jake. Sad story, hated to read it. How did Jake do, did he ride?
Same happened to me this morning. A coworker asked me if I saw the kid that died at Indy this morning? Scared the crap out me. Peter Lenz is the kid. I am so sorry to hear that. RIP and God Bless
Jake looked awesome and rode awesome! 2nd on Sat and 3rd on Sun against some super fast competition. I'm sure that Mark and the others will provide details. But, from my perspective, Peter's accident has put a damper on the entire weekend. There were many highlights, but reality has a way of smacking you up side the head. I've been doing this for over 25 yrs and and this is one of the most difficult in quite some time. Just a reminder that this is a very dangerous sport that we absolutely love.
From what I have read about this, Peter's father ask the Indy officials to NOT make any kind of announcement about Peter's death until the day's activities and racing was over. Thus, most people that were in attendance knew nothing of his death until returning home or ???
That is true according to a friend who was working at the track and posted on the WERA BBS. That was the word he heard over the corner worker's radio.
I watched many of the crashes in slow motion after getting home from Indy and noticed the front bumping hard before washing out. I think the track is a lot rougher than many realize.
Yes Peters passing was a real damper for the weekend.... He was pitted on the stand right behind Jake in the Honda Pits and it was really a treat to get down there and give Jake a hard time before Qualifying on Friday as well.. RIP Peter.. and condolences to all of your friends and family...
