At Talladega my foot slipped off the end of my peg, twice. Happily it was my outside foot, but even then it's a little scary - especially railin' through Turn One! It seems like Woodcraft pegs might be too smooth on the outside. Vortex pegs for example look to offer a grippier surface. Anybody know whether any other pegs will swap onto my Woodcraft rearsets? I'm guessing not. Also, from what I understand riding with the very END of the peg in the middle of the BALL of my foot is proper technique, yes? Thanks.
was this during saturday or Sunday? I know it rained Sunday, not that your foot should slip either way.
I have these on mine. Not sure if they will fit the Woodcraft Rearset, but my foot has never slipped. Gilles Tooling Replacement Footpegs For AS31GT Rearset
I've had that happen with the Woodcrafts in years' past. What we would do is cut little "X"'s down the peg with a metal saw. Made a nice improvement with added grip. No need to go deep with the cut. You don't want to weaken the peg, but just enough to give the boot something grab onto.
Stock pegs exchange with the woodcraft pcs. Not sure why anyone would do that but thats all that will swap as far as I know. I've only had that problem after getting new boots that didnt have the big divit in the sole from the peg. Maybe you need to keep a little more weight on the outside peg.... oh wait thats a different thread!!! :hat: BTW- my woodcraft pegs are smooth and polished on the end and I have no problem
David, I've got the Vortex rearsets on my 600RR and they are so "sharp and pointed" that I had to take a Dremel tool and grind a bit of the "edge" off of them so that they wouldn't tear up the soles of my riding boots. I know that doesn't help your situation, but if I can take a little bit of the sharpness off of the Vortex pegs, a Dremel tool might be able to put a little more grip into your Woodcraft pegs.
I have never had a problem with multiple sets of Woodcrafts. Well except for the time I blew a radiator hose at Barber, but that was a different problem.
I've seen a Vortex peg go through a guy's leg (near his jewels) before. Was pretty ugly. Those Vortex pegs scare me!
You might want to put more pressure on your inner thighs than your feet.... I have no issues with pegs.. I have stockers on the R1 (That even fold) then the Samuri Bayonete Vortex's,,, They will eat through boots every 2 years... Even filed down...
Well I was practicing the things that Jason D. was talking about during lunch at Tally, specifically how to place and also weight the inside foot during a turn. Helped me a lot!!! I also found my hand placement, more parallel than perpendicular to the grip, needed improvement and also made a huge difference. Hoping the slipping foot thing was just a bit of a fluke. I'll revive the thread if it happens again in the spring.
I agree, does anyone remember the pic being thrown around a couple years back of someones leg slashed open by a vortex footpeg? Looked like something from a horror movie.
I doubt you or anyone would expect that type of thing and it is the reason many people don't use vortex rearsets (or file down the teeth).
in all seriousness, i definitely never thought of that particular injury. i find the less gruesome thoughts i have on the track the better haha...
I remember that pic, of leg or something it was bad. I don't how many times I've left leg meat on a foot peg loading stuff up in a dark trailer on vortex pegs. I got Gilles rear-set and my foot slipped off a couple of times this season. Kinda distracting. I think it was because there not as sharp and the boots had no hole yet, love new boots but hate 'em at the same time.
I've searched for the pic but can't find it. From what I remember it was a gash about 2ft long (upper thigh to mid calf) through all the skin and fat and 6 or 8 inches wide.... :faint:
