Numbers are required on the front only and may be any two or three digit number. If two bikes have the same number we will use a "X" after the number on one. I am number 11 becuse it's reall easy to make with duct tape.. my old racing number was 111 for the same reason! LOL!!! We will have number available at cost trackside. I think they run a buck or so per digit.
Excellent points Monte!!! Simply add 'Rider Level' and 'Bike Number' to the database and have a form for bumps that requires sign-off by at least 1 (preferably 2 )CR's so that there is a trail for updates and it's all done!!! I like it - getting serious about out of control riders and people looking to scam the system and the good natured people that try to make it work will no longer be tolerated.... There's a new sheriff in town and he's one pissed-off Monte (And not to self, given his history, never let him ride my Aprilia)
There's another track day org that gives out numbers regardless of whether or not your bike has numbers already, that are color coded to which group you should be in. (The background of the sticker are a color, the numbers are all black) They're about the same size and are the equivalent to the STT N/I/A stickers. The numbers are arbitrary, given out in the order in which you register for the day, and your number is recorded in the paperwork. That way there were no duplicate numbers and everyone was consistent. This is probably a lot easier logistically for one day events as opposed to two days though.
Aw, quit yer whinin'! Didn't you put race glass on your bike? Just get numbers, put 'em on, and leave 'em on.
Read the quote. If they assign them every time you have to change them every time. Yes I got plastics and nice custom numbers then the commies of the world decided I cannot have #00 :!: So I have swapped this year to avoid having to put a tape one on for orgs that can't handle #00
That's because '00' isn't a number, rather it's a condition.... J/K I can see how the org supplying numbers might work, then again, what if someone has 2 bikes they want to ride that day.... Also, seems like an added expense for the org... And where do the 'nekkid bikes put their numbers??? I gots ta no!!!
We're going to try really hard Hank. BTW, every time I fell down except once, it was within 30 days of buying a new Arai helmet. That's the honest to gosh truth. I stopped buying Arai and I stopped (almost) falling down. Go figure that one out.
Yeah, but no one said we're doing it that way for sure. I'd prefer to pick one number and stick with it, too. That way, it is less for the STT staff to do. If your number is on your bike, you're good to go. If you have no number, then one can be assigned to you. If everyone picks a number, they can be in a database so STT will always know who you are.
eh, I didn't say it was the best route to take, just thought I'd bring it up as an option. The stickers were inobtrusive, and peeled right off. (er, depending, they sometimes had papery stickers that kind of blew) They were also small enough to put over the taped up headlight of a nekkid bike. If you brought two bikes, at whatever point in the day you wanted to ride the other bike, you could take it through tech and get another number sticker. Plenty of people don't have track-only plastic and don't want to have permanent numbers on their street bike, they'll need to put new numbers on at each track day anyway.
I think the mandatory #'s are a good idea as well. I didn't use them last year, but it does make alot of sense. It would make it especially easier to keep track of certain people. I like the idea if you don't have you're own # to have some assigned to you for the day as well.
For my streetbike I use on the track, I made a number plate with regular size racing numbers on a flexible white thick vinyl background. I just taped this over the headlights and removed it afterwards. Worked great, kept the same number. This "number plate" has lasted for over 5 years.
So what's the best way for folks to reserve their number for the season? I already registered for the year. By the way, Staples sells basic 5-6" peal and stick numbers for like $5 a sheet. They come in all the basic colors and very easily peel on and off a bike. I used these the first year of track days when my electrical tape numbers were starting to look like a ransome note! Maybe STT would want to have a few sheets on hand for riders who forget to bring their numbers? Not a huge investment. I picked 696 cause a sheet so I can just turn one of the 9s upsidedown to get two sets of numbers  Dirt bike shops also sell hight quality numbers that also peel on and off pretty easily. May want to put a coat of wax on the bike if you plan on taking them off.
