I still ride street but have about double the track miles compared to street since last Aug thank to being introducted to STT.
Sport bikes on the track, Harleys on the road - mostly only on long trips. Oh yeah, the Zuma around town.
I barely put 500 miles on the Busa last year . Just to work and one trip to Road America to watch the pros
Track Only Track Only: To dangerous and stressful on the street. Only time is to break in a new track bike. J
I ride both. The danger varies with where you ride and how you ride. Rideing in metropolitan traffic or trying to ride the street like a race track would seem to elevate the danger.
Every year that has passed, since I started going to trackdays about six years ago, I have ridden less and less on the street. Most of the street riding I do now is up to local bike night and the occasional sunday ride. Even then I encounter many dangerous situations with cars/trucks etc... I emagine very soon that I will not be riding on the street at all.
I've realized that I only ride my BMW to Two Wheel Tuesdays @ the Abbaye in Philly, no more backroads blazin' or long road trips- the last one was a year ago, to the CCS Races at Road America. I'm debating whether to sell the bike and invest in a set of PVM wheels and/or Ohlins fork internals for the Jinxer or make the Beemer my rain bike. I really don't want to renew the insurance on it when it expires, that's like two weekends at the track... Cheers, Lance
Hit the track about 2 years ago and have a 2005 Suzuki Boulevard that has barely seen the street since. I drive 86 miles each day for work. I can count how many times I have said, "If I was on my bike, I wouldn't be here right now." Sunday rides - VERY early with the wife and friends and that is about it.
I'm getting to the point where I don't care to ride on the street. Last time I rode was beginning of last August for a track day. Bike is still in that condition - track ready. I'm considering make it the track bike and breaking out my 250 for the street, just to help with the cost of gas these days.
I live 20 Minutes from the North Ga Mountains however I gave up the street all together this year... I figure I would cut my chances by 50%... With kids and a family I think it was a good thing... Too many people going down up there every weekend....
Both. I've been nearly smooshed more often driving my Miata than I have on the bike. Either way I'm super careful and aware of my surroundings. Riding on the track has made me ride on the street less, for instance the 10 miles of straight road through the ghetto for a work commute isn't really that appealing on the bike, but I still love day trips out to the nicer roads. I also really love long distance riding. Have always enjoyed road trips, and it's more fun on a bike.
Since I started STT, I've just ridden on the street to break-in new bikes. I'm currently in the process of converting my bikes to track-only.
Both ways for now....I'm considering track only. The more I ride on the track, the less I want to be on the street.
I sold my ZX11 in 2001, and haven't looked back. The only time I street ride is to test something I've fixed as a side job, or if a friend stops by and offers me the chance to take a quick spin. My current GSXR has a street legal title, so I suppose I could rig up some lights and get a plate and insurance, but I just don't feel the need.
