Motorcylces are mere toys when compared to such aircraft.

Growing up very close to a military air base, I recall watching P38s, A4, A6, F4, F14, F15, F16, F18, AWACS, C140, Apache, Huey, Sea Dragon and too many others fly around. I always liked the big helicopters, especially the Sea Dragon's ability to shake everything in sight, even when its off a good distance.

A friend of my dad's bought a P38 in th 50's when they were dirt cheap. Cost him $500. He told my father he had trouble paying for all the fuel it burned. I was reading an article on the P51 recently and the air racer that owned it mentioned he burns 90 gallons of specially blended VP Aviation Fuel in a single 6 lap race. Then they add another 30 gallons or so to account for parade laps and in case the air strip is "occupied" (by cripled planes) after the race.

don't worry, they're only $1.2 mil. Some cars sell for more.

So, back on track (no pun intended)...

I've checked the website and there appear to be plenty of choices for hotels in the nearby area.

Does anyone have first hand knowledge of the area who can provide some insider info on preferred places to stay that are track-day friendly so we can give our business to people who might actually like our kind of people?

The last time I checked, if your kind of people are the spending kind, then in NJ you are liked. 8)

    Hank...
I don't know where you're from, but just for reference..... NJMP is only about 3/4 of an hour from Philadelphia, so it's not like you're really in the middle of nowhere. There should be plenty of hotels within striking distance.

What's the story with the Thunderbolt date cancellation on the schedule? Is STT getting a replacement date for this?

Unfortunately this date was a tentative date. as it turns out, in the end it went to a higher bidder. Dave is working hard to secure more dates for '09.

hope to see everyone at pocono in april.
